Blog Post, Horsemanship, Travel & Adventure / Saturday, January 26th, 2019

By the time you read this we’ll be off with Patrick King Horsemanship to Vila Franca de Xira and Lisbon, Portugal, to ride and study Classical Dressage with Master Luis Valenca and our friends at Valença Classical Riding .

MASTER LUIS VALENÇA

Master Luis Valenca is widely regarded as the greatest living practitioner of Classical dressage currently alive in the world today.

At home in the “Centro Equestrian da Lezíria Grande” situated in Vila Franca de Xira – Portugal, he teaches the classic horsemanship with the horses and riders who come from the four corners of the world.

With his classes he reveals his perception of the nature of the horse and demonstrates by specially adapted lessons how to get a strong basis for classic horsemanship. He presents methods of work leading to Mastery of High School.

The main objective of the Valença Method (VM) is to help anyone who wishes to enhance their riding skills and go further with teaching his/her horse …and that certainly includes me!

The breed is well known for its’ exceptional performance in all equestrian disciplines, especially in dressage, driving, and pleasure equitation.  The Lusitanos are known for their generous temperament and ease under saddle. Move over Denver & Pirate!

Castle Tour

To add to the excitement of this wonderful experience, we will be touring some of the most fascinating sites in Portugal, including, of course, Lisbon. But, more about that later!

I won’t be posting here again until we arrive back home, but I’ll try to share as much as I can on Facebook, at The Barngoddess Chronicles, and my page Janet Winters.
