Life With Horses

Throughout my life with horses, I have been fortunate enough to learn from many of the best professionals in the business. Trainers, clinicians, farriers, veterinarians, and many more. Having cared for horses here at home, I’ve learned the ins and outs of “horse management” and all that it entails.  For many years I boarded my horses in facilities that managed their environment and healthcare. When I took this on myself I had to become familiar with the intricacies of a multitude of horse related issues:

  • Proper stabling – Turning my garage into a “barage” adding pop-up stalls, rubber mat footing, instant bedding, (dump out the pellets, wet the down with the hose…and voila! Perfect bedding!) Feed/tack room organization (who do I think I’m kidding).  Teenage daughter with muck fork.
  • Nutrition Management – Loading down the Yukon at Tractor Supply with feed and supplements. Procuring good hay & coercing teenage sons to load it into upstairs loft. Re-purposing plastic garbage cans to protect grain from varmints.
  • Pasture Maintenance – Fence mending, monitoring intake or rich spring grass, hay dumping (when they’ve eaten every last blade of grass),  insect control (Fly Predators will save your life!) Manure disposal (teenage sons and the old John Deer.)
  • Health Care – Vet, Dentist & Farrier on speed dial.

Caring For Horses And Much More!

Our  Barngoddess Chronicles blog posts will never lack subjects to wax poetic about, including the actual riding of horses, so with that being said, I offer you a spot of wisdom from one of my favorite trainers, Mr. Patrick King of PKH Horsemanship.
