“Horses are prey animals with a fight-or-flight instinct. At times, this characteristic can make a trail ride feel more like an adventure on a runaway train. I remember one ride when a combination of farm equipment and deer made my horse come unglued several times in quick succession. I tried to stay calm and cool, but I finally gave up and went home. When our horses spook, it can spook us too. And in those tense moments of fear, we are ready to cut our rides short.
Fight …or
Flight?
This broken world can make us feel just as spooked. There are days when it’s amazing that we even have the courage to leave our houses. But with God, we are given a choice between experiencing fear or faith. God wants so much more for us than to walk through life full of fear, worry, and anxiety. We may not be in control, but we can trust the One who is.
When fear strikes, the best thing we can do is kneel on those knocking knees. As we go to God in prayer, He gives us peace and comfort. He also provides answers to our prayers and performs miracles on our behalf. As we exercise these trust muscles, they get stronger, and our faith begins to grow.
Have Faith
Try letting go of the reins and putting them into the capable hands of God. You might still spook on occasion, but the closer you get to the Lord, the more fear-proof you’ll become.” – Cara Whitney, Unbridled Faith
