Bringing The Horses Home!
Preperations are in play for bringing the horses home from their winter boarding facilitiy. March is upon us, and is arriving like a lamb, not a lion! The hay is in, feeds prepared, run-in shed cleaned. Now for the horses themselves.
The Contest- Who Can Be The Most Exasperating?
Our Contestants…
Category #1 “Shedding Out.”
To avoid bringing excess winter coats back with us, we opted to begin the shedding out process ahead of time.
Although Pirate appeared to be the front runner in this category, Denver put in an unexpected show and stole the category “hands down!”
Category #2 – Measuring for turnout sheets.
All three horses will be getting brand new waterproof turn-out sheets to ward off the unpredictable weather in March and April. All we have to do is measure for the correct sizes. Easy-peasy…right?
Measuring For a Horse
Blanket
Have your horse stand still (if possible!) on flat, level ground.
Measure from the center of your horse’s chest
around the shoulder at the widest part, to the center of the tail. This measurement is easiest to obtain with a soft fabric measuring
tape.
This measurement – in inches – is your blanket size.
The operative words here are..stand still (if possible!)
Yup. An hour and a-half later, and we had all three measured. They were all the same size! A Gypsy Vanner and two Saddlebreds? Right! I hope the blanket company has a liberal return policy!
Denver won this won this category with ease. No big suprise.
Category #3 – Trailering
This was our first attempt at trailering Freckles since she began her training program. A few sending exercises were necessary prior to approaching the ramp…
But she did get on (to her own suprise) winning the class! Pirate and Denver were a breeze!
The Peacable Kingdom
The horses are now reunited with Poppy & Tuxedo…winners, all!
Looking Forward To A Happy Spring!
