A Delightful Day In Delaware!

Point-to-Point Horserace
A beautiful sunny Sunday (May 7th) welcomed the 45th annual Winterthur Point-to-Point race at the iconic Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. This fun and festive day not only featured thrilling races, but fun activities for the whole family!

An Unexpected Greeting

As we entered the race course gates we were greeted with, of all things, a live opera performance! The melodic sounds of Opera Delaware’s Pop Up Opera filled the air, and literally set the stage for a day filled with excitement.  The company’s mission is to bring opera to everyone. A feast for the senses!

Speaking of feasts…tailgaters were not to be outdone in the food department. Winterthur put a special spin with a contest, naming celebrity chef Dru Tevis, winner of Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship in 2022, as official judge.

Although judging the contest was an arduous task, he finally declared The Young Friends of Brandywine the royal winners!

With humor to spare! 🙂

And then of course…there is the shopping!

In case anyone forgot their hat, One Fresh Hat came to the rescue for ladies and gents alike.

And Tally Ho…off we go!

Equestrian Festivities kicked off with a parade of the River Hills Foxhounds, followed by the spectacular George A. “Frolic” Weymouth Antique Carriage Parade.

But not to be outdone, the kids showed of their equestrian prowess in the ever popular stick-pony races!

Not to forget an important “point”…proceeds from this year’s event support  Winterthur’s Natural Lands program managing woodland, meadow, and wetland habitats throughout the estate; preservation of the Winterthur Garden; and initiatives to invite members and visitors to enjoy almost 1,000 acres of conserved land.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of visiting Winterthur, I highly recommend making the trip. And be sure to mark your calendar for next years Point-to-Point race on Sunday May 4th 2024!
